Our team attended our first FIRST Kickoff at Viasat in Carlsbad. Although it was an early morning start (especially for a Saturday), it was totally worth it! We were warmly greeted by many other teams and many teams offered to help us with whatever we needed to get a start to the season. Everyone was excited for the big reveal followed by the opportunity to see the field elements. We picked up our rookie kit as well as our kit of parts. Several other teams wanted to take a look at what the rookie kit includes (yes, it comes with a laptop!).
We then headed over to Trade Tech High School to collaborate with other teams on the rules of the game. Everyone in attendance broke up into nine different groups and each team tackled a different part of the rules. Each member of a team was encouraged to split up among the nine teams so that there would be at least one member of each team very knowledgeable in each section of the rules. We then came together as a group and each team presented what they thought was most important to note about the rules this year. Thank you SuperNURDs and Blueprints for hosting this event!
After lunch at Subway we headed back to our workshop to take inventory of all our new parts. We were very anxious to get started, but waited until Sunday before we started to build our drivetrain.
